2022 Jeep Wrangler

2022 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The hybrid high-voltage system failed the first time it was used, in April 2026 at about 35,000 miles. I had not charged or used hybrid mode before that because of the manufacturer's high-voltage battery fire-risk recall guidance (recalls 23V-787, 24V-720, 25V-741) not to charge and to park away from structures. The check engine light came on at first use and has not stayed off except when cleared by the dealer. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealer for the same hybrid high-voltage system concern on 4/19/2026, 6/17/2026 and 7/5/2026 without a fix. On 8/4/2026 the vehicle would not start at all and had to be towed. It stayed at the dealer 29 days (8/6 to 9/4/2026). The dealer replaced the main battery and found DTC P0E15-00 (electric coolant heater performance) with the high-voltage coolant heater in a 'locked permanent' unrecoverable state, and replaced the HV heater. The three earlier visits never identified this high-voltage thermal-management failure. Safety risk: a sudden no-start / loss of propulsion, and a failed cooling component in the high-voltage system of a vehicle population already under repeated battery thermal-runaway / fire recalls, where the manufacturer has acknowledged fires in vehicles that had received earlier remedies. The failures were confirmed and documented by the dealer on repair orders. The manufacturer (Stellantis) has been notified in writing and has declined to repurchase the vehicle. Repair orders are available on request.

The vehicle experiences a severe, violent, and sudden side-to-side shaking of the front suspension and steering wheel (commonly known as "death wobble"). This dangerous oscillation typically occurs at highway speeds (approx. 55–70 mph) immediately after the vehicle strikes a normal highway bump, expansion joint, or pothole. Note: As a 4xe plug-in hybrid model, the vehicle carries substantially more curb weight than a standard internal combustion engine Wrangler due to the heavy battery pack and electric drivetrain components. This increased mass significantly magnifies the physical forces and wear placed on the front suspension and steering linkage during impact. Despite having less than 30,000 original miles and no history of accidents, the vehicle exhibits rapid component failure. Front-end steering and suspension components—including the inner drag link and tie rod ends—were previously replaced and aligned on March 17, 2026. However, the exact same dangerous steering instability and component wear reoccurred by September 17, 2026, indicating a persistent, underlying design or durability defect that standard parts replacement fails to resolve. When this failure occurs, vehicle control is severely compromised, requiring the driver to abruptly decelerate in active traffic to regain control of the steering mechanism. This poses an extreme safety hazard to the occupant and surrounding motorists, creating a high risk of a collision or loss of vehicle control.

After recall 68C on this vehicle, my power output has noticeably altered. I did have a HV battery replaced due to failure as well. Yes, they have extended warranty for that HV battery, but also down scaled its original abilities so it is not the vehicle that we originally bought. It does not feel safe on the road, and is constantly under do not park in structures warnings from Stellantis.

After the 68C software recall the vehicle no longer operates the same as prior update in electric mode! While driving in electric mode and on a flat to fairly flat road and with a 50% or less battery the gas engine suddenly starts!! Revs to 3000+rpms then drops to 1500, back up to 2500, back to 1500 then shuts off! The gas engine isn't needed at that time!! When this happens it sort of confuses the drive train and may experience a loss of power. This may happen one or two more times before the battery runs out and it switches to hybrid mode. Hybrid mode works normally! This abnormality only occurs in the electric mode! This is scary when it happens and it started right after the 68C recall. I talked to the Jeep dealership service department and they checked for fault codes and there were none. I asked if they would open a STAR report and they said they did Although it's next to impossible to duplicate it for them as there's no way to tell when it will happen and it doesn't last more than a minute or two. I don't know what to do about this and neither does the service department Calling Jeep Customer Support does nothing as there is no way to talk to the technical department. I'm at a loss other than to report it here. I have heard from other 4xe owners having the exact same issues after the 68C recall. Please help.

My 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has an intermittent loss of acceleration when operating in Electric Mode. As the battery charge decreases, electric propulsion power can become significantly reduced. Pressing the accelerator sometimes produces inadequate acceleration until the gasoline engine engages. This creates a safety concern when entering traffic, crossing intersections, merging, or climbing hills because the vehicle may provide substantially less acceleration than expected. There is no warning message or warning light before or during the loss of acceleration. On a separate occasion, the vehicle displayed “Electric Mode Unavailable” with approximately 50% battery charge and switched to Hybrid Mode. Electric Mode became available again several minutes later. The vehicle has been inspected by two authorized Jeep dealers. No diagnostic codes were found, and the most recent dealer stated the vehicle was operating normally. The problem remains intermittent and has not been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. The vehicle previously operated normally in Electric Mode. My primary safety concern is the unpredictable loss of expected acceleration without warning, particularly when acceleration is necessary to safely enter or merge with traffic.

My 4xe has experienced several recalls since it was purchased in 2022. The most recent recall, 68C was the latest attempt to mitigate the issue of thermal runaway with the High Voltage Battery, which could ultimately lead to a fire. While 68C may have been a partial success with the latter, I believe the software update has created other issues that have introduced potentially dangerous operating scenarios and will likely lead to premature failure of the 2.0L Turbo Gas Engine. The 68C recall software was applied to my 4xe on 12/26/2025 and since that date, the vehicle noticeably performs and behaves differently from the date of purchase on 5/31/2022. When in Electric Mode, the vehicle will inconsistently hesitate and is lacking in power, especially when exiting a full stop. When applying the accelerator to gain more power, the system will override the Electric Mode and will initiate the gas engine to compensate. This instantly loads the engine up to 4k+ RPMs and causes the vehicle to unexpectedly surge forward. The engine will also override the Electric Mode while the vehicle is in motion, again instantly loading the engine and creating a surge of power and additional unexpected forward motion. In addition, I am no longer able to traverse highways without assistance of the gas engine, due to the hinderance of electrical power available. While I do realize that this is a Hybrid/Electric vehicle and has certain safeguards and protocols, this vehicle no longer performs as it was initially delivered to me. Performance aside, I believe that the 68C recall software has created a driving situation that is inconsistent, potentially dangerous, and will be placing future financial burdens on anyone who owns a 4xe.

Ever since the 68c recall I have had a multitude of safety related issues with my vehicle. It appears that in order to protect themselves from a known faulty hybrid battery pack Jeep has reprogramed the vehicle to reduce power. While driving in electric or hybrid mode the vehicle will suddenly lose power creating an unexpected power delivery (ie. one minute you have plenty of power to pass a slower vehicle for example then all of a sudden, you lose that power mid pass). Once power loss occurs the vehicle will start acting extremely erratic with the gas engine kicking on and off and revving high for no reason, constant gear changes etc. A substantial delay occurs between pushing the gas pedal and power delivery, dramatically increasing the vehicles response time to a necessary acceleration, etc. I have inquired to my local dealership about these issues multiple times but am always told by the service advisor that they are not aware of any problems which i know is not true as the online forums are filled with hundreds of stories of near crashes, etc and that Jeep has extended the battery warranty to "unlimited" acknowledging that there is an issue. The problem is that when these batteries fail (and mine has and has been replaced) they replace them with the same defective part.

2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe always had good power on electric mode as well as hybrid mode (electric/gas). There were no issues merging with traffic on highway, freeway, climbing hills, staying with the flow of traffic in electric mode. Was able to stay in Electric mode 99% of the time. When and if Jeep called for more power, engine came on smoothly with engine idling low having time to warm up and then kicking up revs to create stable propulsion. However, on 12/30/2025 Jeep Dealership performed the 68C recall with updates to the Jeep. Now the jeep has no power in electric mode and is constantly going into gas mode with an ice-cold engine revving at high revs to create propulsion. I am no longer able to safely merge with traffic on highway, freeway, climbing hills, staying with the flow of traffic in electric mode. I am concerned for my safety as well as the engine being asked to kick on in high rpm's not up to appropriate operating temperatures.
